Please join us for our annual Think Tank on Saturday, August 17th at 12 pm at the Orange Mound Library and Genealogy Center. Our speaker will be Nona L. Edwards-Thomas, MD. Dr. Edwards-Thomas has been a family historian for 30 years and a passionate genealogy blogger for 12 years. Through her blog, “Brumfield Genealogy and Other Branches and Trees”, she shares the stories she uncovers, often accompanied by photographs, document scans, and detailed family tree charts. She also contributed two stories to the award-winning book Black Homesteaders of the South by Bernice Alexander Bennett. Two additional homestead stories are on the National Park Service website. She is a member of the National Genealogy Society, the Tennessee Genealogical Society and the Afro-American Historical & Genealogical Society.
Dr. Edwards-Thomas is a Chicago, Illinois native who now resides in the Memphis, Tennessee area. She received her undergraduate degree at Loyola University of Chicago, medical school at the University of Illinois and residency at John Stroger Cook County Hospital in Chicago. She is a retired board-certified Obstetrician-Gynecologist who had a 40-year career. In addition to genealogy research, she is a jewelry designer who works with dichroic glass which is featured on the website, N and S Atelier.com
